Mr. Miller getting slimed!

Book Fair was a huge success this year! Each grade level had a challenge of who would collect the most money for the "One for Books" program.  The second grade collected the most money so the second grade teachers got the chance to slime Mr. Miller today at assembly.  It was so much fun to watch! Thank you for helping support reading!

Critterman visit!

It is always fun to see the animals Critter man presents to us during his visits here at Sparks.  This year he brought a prairie dog, king snake, possum, turkey vulture, ferret, and gray horned owl. We are so privileged to see these amazing animals! Ask you child what they learned!

Cosmic Capers presented by High Touch High Tech

We were visited by Laboratory Lee Ann today for the Cosmic Capers program of High Touch High Tech.
We launched a rocket and timed how long it was in the air.  We then calculated how high the rocket went in the air.  It went about 64 feet! The class experienced how forces cause and opposite reaction when they stood on blue rotating circles and the scientist spun wheels in our hands.  The students turned from side to side when they made the wheel "flat as a pancake." We also jumped to see how far we can jump on the moon.  For every foot jumped on Earth, you would jump 28 feet on the moon!!  Some students in this class can jump 168 feet on the moon!  Lastly, we made alien sneeze. EEEEWWWWWW!

Wax Museum

Every year, the fifth graders present a wax museum where they dress up as a person in history and then they present facts about what they researched and learned about the person.  We just started reading about Helen Keller so this is a perfect opportunity to learn about different people!

Once back in class, we wrote about our favorite person.  Here are some things students in our class had to say about what they learned....

The person I liked the most is Jane Goodall.  I like her because of what she did with chimps.  I learned that she look care of a lot of chimps.

I liked Henry Ford because he made the first Ford car.  He helped in world war two by donating.  Then he sadly died in 1906.

Charles Schultz made the comic strip Peanuts.  Then he was awarded.  He sadly died.

The person I liked the most was Pocahontas.  She was kidnapped, but she saved an Englishman's life! She was taken away from her father.  She was my favorite.

The person I liked the most was Anne Frank because I learned her diary was published as a book in 1947 and she hid during world war two.

First we played on the bounce houses! Then when 11:45 came around, we started field day! We had a wonderful time!
