Congruent Shapes

How many ways can we make congruent shapes using pattern blocks???  Congruent shapes are the same size and the same shape.

This class has an amazing creativity!!  The class made a shape using pattern blocks.  Then they found different ways to make that same shape by using different pattern blocks.  When the same shape and same size shape is made, the shapes are congruent.  Look below at the congruent shapes.  Can you explain why they are congruent?

Shape Riddles

We have been studying 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes.  Your child should know that 2D shapes have sides, corners, and angles.  3D shapes have edges, vertices, and faces.  On activity we did was find an shape in a bag to describe to the class.  The class then determined what the shape was by hearing the clues.  Today the class made WHO AM I? riddles.  Can you guess which shape is described in the riddles below?

Fractured Fairy Tale Plays

Our class has amazing actors!!!  They did a fabulous job today performing their fractured Fairy Tale!  Many of us know the story of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, and others, but these stories were different.  Did you know that the Big Bad Wolf in Little Red Riding Hood became a teacher?  That's what one fractured Fairy Tale was about!

These plays were fun to watch and enjoy! Below are pictures from the performances.

OPEN HOUSE

Thank you to everyone who was able to come to Open House tonight!!  We have been busy this year with many projects and now your child was able to show off all their hard work!!  This truely is an amazing class.  I am proud of all the learning that has happened this year.

Our work ready to show you on the desks!

The postcards written in the point of view of a folktale character that is writing to another folktale character.

These are our fable or tall tale stories and the science projects.

We read the Chocolate Touch as a class.  We graphed our opinion if the chocolate touch was a good thing.  By the end of the book, most of the class thought it was most likely a good thing because John Midas had learned a lesson not to eat so much chocolate.

These are all our class books from this year!!  These include our writing stories and posters made this year.  WOW!
These are our paper bag puppet book reports.  They turned out great!

Probability and Graphing

We have been busy making bar graphs and pictographs and learning about probability!!!  We have surveyed the class with different questions, such as "What is your favorite sport?"  Then we used the survey results to make graphs.
Once we learned about probabilty spinners, the class then created spinners!  Below are spinners made by the class and the graphs showing results of 20 spins with the spinner.  Then the class wrote their results using probability vocabulary (certain, more likely, less likely, equally likely, and impossible).
