Red Ribbon Week

Dress up for the Red Ribbon Week theme days to help support making good choices towards a drug-free life and school.

Mon., October 24 – “Texans Give Drugs the Boot”
  • Students and faculty are encouraged to wear cowboy boots or Texas Rangers gear to support giving drugs the “boot”

Tues., October 25 – “Be all you can be by being Drug Free”
  • Students and faculty are encouraged to wear camouflage outfits to promote staying away from drugs and making good choices when selecting activities to participate in with friends.

Wed., October 26 – “Pledge to Be Drug Free”
  • Students and Faculty are encouraged to wear “RED” to support the National Wear Red Day to say NO to Drugs.
  • Red Ribbon week was established in memory of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.  Officer Camarena grew up in California and went to work for the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency).  On Feb. 7, 1985, Officer Camarena gave his life in the fight against drugs.  Each year we celebrate “Red Ribbon Week” to help educate students to the dangers of drug use.

Thurs., October 27 – “Catch the Wave to making Good Choices and Staying Drug Free”
  • Students and faculty are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts or T-shirts and sunglasses.

Fri., October 28 – “Say YES to a Healthy Lifestyle”
  • Students and faculty are encouraged to wear Sparks Spirit wear or their Gary Burns Fun Run T-shirt and their sneakers to “get away” from drugs. We encourage the Sparks Community to participate in the Gary Burns Fun Run as one way to promote a healthy, drug-free life.
